Virgin's first London hotel plugged straight into the creative charge of Shoreditch when it opened in 2024, and it wears the neighbourhood's industrial heritage with obvious relish — exposed brick, steel-framed factory windows and a deliberately unslick, high-energy glamour. The 120 guest rooms, branded Chambers, use a clever sliding door to separate the sleeping area from the lounge, so you can take a delivery or a meal without anyone stepping into your bedroom, and the Virgin Hotels app controls everything from the lights to the thermostat. Eating and drinking is the real event here: the ground-floor Commons Club lounge and café, the Spanish kitchen BiBo from chef Dani García, and Marlin's on the Roof — a rooftop bar, restaurant and pool with skyline views over the East End. Note that this is Shoreditch, in EC2A rather than beside the river, so Tower Bridge is a short ride south via Shoreditch High Street or Liverpool Street rather than a walk.
